Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts

So what are my final thoughts? Well firstly, the fantastic people I met on route namely: Marion and Pat from New Zealand who provided us with plenty of laughs, the young hostellers, Mark, Michael, Karen and Matt with whom we shared many a funny moment, Kate from the USA who tried to break from the guided group to join us but couldn't quite do it but shared a few drinks with us. She now embarks on an amazing travel schedule and good luck to her. To Bruce from Canada who walked with us in the early part of the trip. I hope he finishes OK on Sunday. Cindy and Nelson who should finish Saturday. Nicki and her husband who demonstrated that teenage girls do blossom but they only walked until Shap and hope to do the rest at a later date. To Karen and Paul who seemed to fall out and make up with equal frequency and to John (aka Tom) and Gerri and the God Squad who we lost touch with at Richmond.

Also, Dale who overcame pneumonia, a dodgy knee and my snoring to finish the walk. A great friend. Finally, an appreciation of the terrific countryside on our doorstep and seen through the eyes of those not from these shores showed that we take it for granted.

Overall a fantastic experience that exceeded all expectations. We were planning in the pub our next walk next year with our new friends. Whether it happens or not who knows but I've got the bug and the West Highland Way is a good bet.

Signing off with 2 blisters, a swollen ankle and some memories that will stay with me forever.

The C2C bubble gang.. Dale (with Nat), Kate (obscured by Dale's arm) of the guided group, Karen, Michael, Mark and Matt aka the Young Hostellers, Karen, Paul, Pat and Miriam
